Zero Waste Events Guide
To support events during the transition towards a circular economy and to reduce their waste, the Barwon South West Waste and Resource Recovery Group supported by Bellarine Catchment Network have developed the Zero Waste Event Guide and Kit.
These free resources help event organisers, land managers and patrons eliminate waste and prevent litter at Victorian events of all sizes and types. Local events of all sizes are a great way to bring the community together and enjoy ourselves, whether it’s the local farmers market, school fete or major sporting events and music festivals.
As much as we all enjoy attending events, they often come at a cost to the environment with thousands of disposable plates, cups, water bottles, napkins, zip ties and other items used throughout the duration of an event.
The Zero Waste Events Guide
The Guide uses a simple step by step process of best practice and key options to consider in the planning, delivery and evaluation of events to eliminate waste. It was funded by Sustainability Victoria. The Guide including templates, fact sheets and tools are all downloadable for free on this page.

The Zero Waste Events Kit
The Zero Waste Event Kit accompanies the Guide, and is a framework that can be assembled around standard wheelie bins to help patrons stream out waste into a choice of nine recovery streams, with banners and volunteer kits included.
The Zero Waste Event Kit is available now to loan from Bellarine Catchment Network (BCN) for events of all sizes. The kit is free to loan but requires a small bond, refundable upon return.

The kits have recently been upgraded to extend more waste streams, new wooden display boxes and additional signage through a Sustainability grant with the City of Greater Geelong. The display boxes were built by the St Leonards Mens Shed.
